When I met Pamela, I was 19 years old, and the mother of an almost 1-year-old boy. It was 2003. We met on Baby Beach in Paia, Maui, and that meeting changed my life.
One of our first conversations was about home-schooling. I told her that I wished I could home-school my son, but that I didn’t think it was possible because I was a single Mom. She told me that it WAS possible, and that she was doing it herself. She believed in me and encouraged me to think outside the box. I ended up home-schooling my son until he was in 5th Grade!
The other life-changing thing Pamela did for me, was introduce me to recovery. She showed me that you could bring all your past traumas and issues in to the light, and that healing could begin from there. She listened compassionately and without judgment to things I thought I would never tell another soul. I was able to tell her the worst, scariest and most shameful parts of my past, and she continued to accept me, help me, and be my friend. This was immeasurably healing.
There are few "Fairy God Mothers" that have come in to my life. Pamela is without a doubt one of them. I am so grateful that our paths crossed, and hope that her path crosses the lives of many others!
Thanks for your kind words, Pamela! You are an inspiration to me, as well. I remember when I met you in Santa Cruz. You deeply impressed me with your absolute commitment to being a ferocious and loving mother and a strong and resilient human being, in spite of the great challenges you had faced and continued to face. I met Pamela and her children around 2002 at a homeschooling event and she struck me as a very sensitive and aware person, especially when she interacted with the children she had a wholesome and unique approach which inspired me. Later I became aware of her health challenges and observed her heroic efforts to lead a normal life and raise her children. She always has high standards and bright visions for me when we discuss any problem and truly helps me see things from a different angle. Wendi is a great inspiration!
